forget flowers--knives make better bookmarks
ron plath
i've
been
using
a
long
thin
pocket
knife
for
a
bookmark
a
surprised
visitor
asked
me
why
&
it
was
then
that
i
realized
it
may
be
b/c
sooner
or
later
words
won't
delay
the
inevitable

drinking steadily through slow deaths & sudden endings

to save money
i use old grocery bags
to line my kitchen
garbage pail
small plastic sacks
less than 1/4 the size
of the average liner
i keep tying them by
their thin handles
which rip sometimes
& tossing them
into the bin outside
it looks like a bunch
of cysts accumulating
a cluster like the tumors
of days gone by
in another pail
the landlord has
one hefty, black
body bag-like sack
i stare at both
&i don't know which
disturbs me more
either way, i notice
an increase
in the empty beer bottles
in my recycling bin
